Attendance
ATTENDANCE:
Parents/guardians are called by our Attendance Notification machine when a student is absent. Please call our office to report an absence at 760-228-1802. Parents/guardians may also report an absence by logging in to their Synergy ParentVue Portal.
Verification of absences must be submitted within 2 weeks. Absences not verified within the 2-week timeline will be recorded as unexcused except in the instance of extraordinary circumstances as determined by the principal. State law dictates which absences qualify as excused absences. Seventh and eighth grade students may not have more than nine (9) unexcused days of absence per semester course. If a student exceeds nine (9) days of unexcused absences for a particular course, the student will not receive credit for that course (BP 5113, AR 5113). When a student is absent from school, the parents must telephone the Student Services Office at 760-228-1802. They may also log in to their Synergy ParentVUE Portal to submit an absence. If the parents cannot call, the student should bring a note and take it directly to the Student Services Office before going to his/her first class on the day he/she returns to school. If a student struggles with attendance and is not attending school, you may be required to meet with school administrators, sign an Attendance Contract, receive visits from our Probation Officer, or possibly be referred to School Attendance Review Board (SARB).
MAKE-UP WORK:
Each student shall make up all work missed during all excused absences including absences due to participation in school-related activities. For all such absences, the student shall be given the number of school days equal to the number of days absent prior to the assignment being due to make up work missed. For example, if the student is absent two days, as a minimum, he/she will be given until the beginning of class period on the third day after returning to have all make-up work completed and turned in to the teacher. It is the student’s responsibility to ask teachers for missed work due to an excused absence. When asked, teachers must provide missed work for excused absences. Teachers are not required to provide make-up work for a student who has an unexcused absence.
TO SUCCEED IN SCHOOL, YOU NEED TO BE IN SCHOOL!!!!
