Dear MUSD Parents and Guardians,
I’m happy to share some exciting news regarding the upcoming school year. Based on your feedback from this year’s Local Control and Accountability Plan (LCAP) survey showing a 92.49% support rate for ongoing staff development and our work with our educational partners to maximize student achievement, we have scheduled regular collaboration time for staff during a weekly minimum day.
What does this mean? Beginning in the 2023-2024 school year, students will be released 90 minutes early every Wednesday so that teachers and staff can have scheduled “Collaboration Time” to improve student outcomes. During this time, staff will have an opportunity to analyze student data, engage in professional learning together, and build upon their teaching practices to positively impact student achievement. Know that the total number of instructional minutes in a week will not change, but rather be adjusted to maximize their outcomes through staff collaboration and growth.
For those families concerned about childcare opportunities on early release Wednesdays, or after school any other day of the week, MUSD is pleased to announce the Expanded Learning Opportunities Program (ELOP) at every elementary school. The program will include arts, STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics), social-emotional wellness, physical activities, and academic learning recovery. This program will be available Monday through Friday for all students in grades TK-6 for three (3) additional hours after the regular school day. ELOP registration will be available with 2023-2024 school registration in May. For your convenience, the 2023-2024 academic calendar is included with this letter.
Abraham Lincoln once said: “The best way to predict the future is to create it,” and together, we are creating the future for our students. Thank you for your continued support as we strive to provide an exemplary education for our students.
