English Learner Advisory Committee (ELAC)

Next Meeting: November 21, 2024 @ 3:45 PM in Rm 13

EL Coordinator: Ms. Kim Gueltzow

The English Learner Advisory Committee (ELAC) is a legally required school-level committee that advocates for and supports English Language Learner (ELL) students and their families. Composed primarily of parents of English learners, along with school staff and community members, ELAC advises the principal and School Site Council on programs and services for English learners. The committee helps develop the school's needs assessment for English learners, reviews the school's annual language census, and works to make parents aware of the importance of regular school attendance. ELAC members also receive training to effectively carry out their responsibilities, which include providing input on the school's English learner program, monitoring English learners' academic progress, and ensuring that the school communicates effectively with ELL families. Through these efforts, ELAC plays a vital role in promoting educational equity and success for English learner students.
