The Morongo Unified School District Board of Education held its regular meeting on Tuesday, covering key topics such as district enrollment, staffing updates and recent donations to the District.
The meeting began with a special recognition of the Twentynine Palms Band of Mission Indians. The tribe recently provided 120 Under Armour uniforms and 142 Riddell Speedflex helmets to the Trojan and Wildcat football teams. These high-quality helmets, designed for enhanced safety, flexibility and durability, are expected to serve the schools for the next ten years.
In addition, the tribe donated 500 backpacks to elementary students in the district. These backpacks have been distributed to students in need throughout the Morongo Basin, and they will remain available for any students requiring them during the winter or spring.
Following the recognition, the Board reviewed staff reports, including an update on district enrollment. Currently, MUSD serves 4,092 elementary students, with 30 more pending, and 3,154 secondary students, with 11 pending.
A staffing report from the human resources department was also presented, showing progress in filling vacant positions. The district currently has 16 vacancies in certificated staff, an improvement compared to past years. In previous years, vacancies in this area exceeded 30. For classified positions, the district has 88 open roles, mostly for instructional aides (IA's), down from over 100 vacancies in prior years.
The Board also conducted a public hearing on textbook compliance for the 24-25 school year certifying that all students in the MUSD have been provided with standards-aligned textbooks. For more information on the Board of Education visit https://www.morongousd.com/o/musd/page/board-of-education.
